Each child finds learning at school to be rewarding and fun. However, due to the pandemic, all schools had to be closed. The COVID-19 pandemic forced academic institutions all across the world to temporarily close their campuses and switch to online delivery of their programs. As a result of the fact that all schools and universities weren't prepared for the transformation, their online teaching and learning strategies gradually evolved. As a student who took online classes throughout the pandemic, here is what I believe.
First is the quality of education offered to students in the early stages of the pandemic. Online courses and modular leaning are the two main types of education offered by colleges and school in Philippines. The unexpected closure of all educational facilities forces students to adopt modular learning as a learning approach because the majority of pupils from low-income households cannot afford to buy their own mobile devices or pay for an internet connection. Because they find it difficult to study from the provided modules, these students eventually beg their parents or guardians to get them a smartphone, laptop, or computer so they can enroll in the online course. Some financially well-off students or students who can afford it deal with a different set of difficulties.
The second factor is both students' and teachers' computer literacy. Because the majority of the classes will be held on Zoom, Google Meet or Google Class, both students and teachers had their computer literacy evaluated. We are all aware that some of our older teachers are unfamiliar with the workings of the internet. As some of our teachers are frequently duped or played joke on by the younger generation, their students. This pandemic put to test our understanding on how to behave when speaking with one another and how to use the internet apps.
The pupils' mental illness is the final point. We are all aware of the impact the pandemic's stress has on students' ability to learn. For instance, one of our neighbors has severe case of anxiety and depression from having to respond all the piled-up modules she has received. Additionally, due to poor nutrition and nourishment, her family truly does not encourage her academic endeavors. She just shouted and passed out at that moment. The physicians claimed she had a mental breakdown and may be treated, but based on the care and support shown by her family, it will be challenging for her to recover. For each student to feel at ease in their homes, good nourishment, care, and family support are crucial. Luckily, I had a loving family who gave me a healthy dinner and a secure environment.
